The Dream Institute at Peace Lake

Dreams ~~

That world of wonder where integrity of meaning is always honored…
The moments where each of us is an artist of amazing creativity…
A space for exploration and discovery of deep mystery…
A time where wisdom is breathtaking and beauty is wise…
A landscape for intimate and infinite reflection…

Dreaming is an activity that transcends all cultures and is alive in every person. It is as healthy and automatic as breathing. Our Inner Guide is waiting every time we sleep to offer us opportunities for growth and healing. However, because every dream has multiple levels of meaning and we have “blindspots” regarding our own issues, we are all helped by others entering into our beautiful puzzle and offering insight.

All DreamWork Facilitators at Peace Lake use the dream groupwork principles and guidelines of Jeremy Taylor (ordained UU minister and past president/founding member of The Association for the Study of Dreams). One of the basic principles of Jeremy’s work is that “all dreams come in the service of health and wholeness.” So it is that The Dream Institute at Peace Lake offers a variety of workshops to help persons access the richness of their own dreams.

Peace Lake Dream Institute Class Requirements

Workshops/Classes offered at Peace Lake in Dreamwork may be of two kinds:

1.     MIPD  Weekends - Classes offered for credit toward certification as a Dreamworker through the Marin Institute for Projective Dreamwork

2.     Workshops that do not meet the hours or content necessary for credit.

In order to be offered as a MIPD class, the workshop will be no less than 10 hours and include the following:

1.     A minimum of 2 hours of dream theory which includes introduction to Jeremy Taylor’s Toolkit.

2.     A minimum of 8 additional hours of theory and/or group dream work.

3.     The class will be structured to include time for processing at least one dream using the theory presented. Class may include examples of dream analysis using this theory from other than the participants. The leader will be familiar with Jeremy’s toolkit and dream working.

Generic Schedule (10 hour minimum)

Friday 6-9 p.m.     Introduction to Dreams and Dreamwork

(Will include introduction to Jeremy’s Toolkit) Also brief discussion of selected topic.

Saturday 9-12 noon  Concentrated information on selected topic

Saturday 1-5 p.m.   Further discussion of topic while working dreams in group

Additional time may be used -- Saturday evening or Sunday for continued working of dreams and theory.

There may be dream workshops offered at Peace Lake apart from those for MIPD certification.  It is assumed that leaders not offering groups for certification will still present basic theory and workshops will run a full day.

Peace Lake Dream Institute
Certification Program

The Peace Lake Dream Institute Program has been approved for transferable equivalent credit in the Marin Institute for Projective Dream Work (MIPD) Certification Program. The MIPD program was founded more than a decade ago in California by Rev. Dr. Jeremy Taylor to train and certify dream workers and dream work trainers for professional employment and service. More than one hundred dream workers have been already been certified through this program, and with the inauguration of the cooperative agreement with the Dream Institute at Peace Lake, it is our shared hope that many more people will take advantage of this valuable opportunity for low-cost, high-quality professional training in this increasingly recognized and crucially important field.

Briefly, the MIPD Professional Dream Worker Certification Program is an information and skills based program emphasizing the central importance and value of more conscious awareness of the inevitability of unconscious projection in all the processes of conscious living, and particularly in the process of helping dreamers to deeper understanding and appreciation of their dreams remembered from sleep. This program consists of three information-based elements, and three experience- based elements.

Three Information-Based Elements

Introduction of the Basic Principles of Projective Dream Work:

Every professional dream worker must be adequately prepared to introduce his/her work to a “cold”, or even hostile audience – in specific, how will you introduce your work?

Global Perspectives on Dreams and Dreaming:

In this increasingly globalized world, it is important for professional dream workers to have a perspective that extends beyond the Western, medical/psychological model of dreaming and working with dreams, one that includes a basic understanding of at least two other traditions of dreaming and dream work practice.

Two “Electives” Giving Concrete Shape to Particular Interests & Practices:

Every professional dream worker should begin to explore particular, “specialized” interests with relation to exploring dreams. Even the sky is not the limit here – “Dream Work with Children,” “Dream Work with the Dying,” “Making Art from Dreams,” “Shamanic Dream Practices,” “Dream Theater and Authentic Movement,” “Facilitating Dream Work in Cyber Communities,” “The Use of Dreams in Medieval Islamic Verse,” “Techniques for Promoting Lucid Dreaming,” “Dreams & Dreaming Among the Chumash & Related Tribes,” and “The Book I Want to Write About Dreams,” etc., et al.

Three Experienced-Based Elements

Organizing & Leading Small Dream Groups, (in consultation with an approved mentor – a minimum of 5 group meetings).

Working One-to One with Individual Dream Work Clients, (in consultation with an approved mentor – a minimum of ten hours, with a minimum of three clients).

Working One-to-One with Your Own Dreams with an Approved Mentor, (for a minimum of five, at least hour long sessions).

The MIPD Program always begins with a conversation about which of these six requirements the candidate may already have accomplished, and granting credit for those that have already been fulfilled before application to the program. When all six required elements have been satisfactorily completed, the candidate is awarded a certificate of completion, and is automatically approved to serve as a mentor for other MIPD students. For more complete details, see the “Marin Institute for Projective Dream Work” page on Jeremy’s web site.
