Dream Institute:
Exploring Dreams Through Creative Expression:
Creating Dream Journals with Haiku and Contemplative Brush
Mandala is a Sanskrit word that means "circle" or "completion." In various spiritual traditions, the creation of mandalas is employed for focusing your attention, used as a spiritual tool and for creating a sacred space to aid in meditation and trance. Creating Mandalas is one of the most important ways to connect to the Dream Time.
Our retreat will commence with embodied labyrinth work, using sound and meditation to build the group container. From this nexus will emerge the material that will then be explored with contemplative brush and haiku. It is being offered in the spirit of the Dalai Lama when he said, "It is in the context of a calm mind that we may say that even the one careful stroke of a brush can speak." We will experience "meditation with a brush" and create a variety of one stroke paintings based on geometric forms from world wisdom traditions. We will also explore the history of haiku and learn how to create "wordless poems". We will create dream journals with haiku and brush paintings. Please come to the workshop with one or two dreams you are willing to share for group work. As in any Dream Group, confidentiality and/or anonymity will be the maintained. Retreat led by Rev. Dr. Calen Rayne, a member of core faculty at Peace Lake.
